The university is the first major employer in Palm Beach County to require vaccines for its workers.
Keiser University is a private university that has 21 campuses in Florida and a flagship campus in West Palm Beach. It will require its employees to get COVID-19 vaccinations by the end of next month to continue working for the school.
Introduction to Keiser University
Keiser University is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There are 12 other campuses throughout the state, including Tallahassee and Orlando. Keiser University was established in 1977 by the Keiser Family, who recognized the need to offer a different approach to education for working students. Students can achieve a degree and a career by working at a slower pace without having to add more pressure to their already hectic lives.
Student Life at Keiser University
Each student attends one class for four weeks and then takes a final exam before they move on to the next class. This ensures that students have a thorough understanding of each step before they can proceed. This system allows students to concentrate on one type and not have to manage multiple classes or multiple assignments.
Students can also communicate easily with their peers and faculty through small classes. Students have many options for scheduling.
Arthur Keiser, University Chancellor, announced Wednesday that the new requirement will take effect on Sept. 17 in an email to approximately 3800 school employees. (UPDATE) The school announced Thursday that it had postponed the effective date to September. 30.)
He wrote, “We now face an increased threat and challenge because of the presence of COVID-19 Delta in Florida.” After careful consideration, we decided that all KU employees must be vaccinated against CoVID-19.
This announcement makes the school the first major employer in Palm Beach County that requires employees to be vaccinated.
The university has two campuses in Palm Beach County and claims to be Florida’s most prominent private non-profit university. It will consider employees with documented medical conditions or “sincerely held beliefs” against the vaccine.
Keiser stated that employees who refuse to be vaccinated would face COVID-19 testing twice a week. They must wear masks indoors and “keep socially distant from others.”
He said that those who are not eligible for an exemption or are unsure about getting vaccinated might need up to 45 days of unpaid leave to decide.
Keiser stated that the rise in COVID-19 cases convinced him to require a vaccine to provide a safe environment for students.
He said, “We want them to be protected, as well as our faculty and staff.” “We have seen many people on our campuses with the coronavirus, and this is a step we want to take.”
He said employees would no longer be required to submit vaccine certificates to schools. Instead, employees will be able to self-report whether or not they have been vaccinated via an online registry.
Keiser stated, “We’re going use the honor system.”
The university acquired West Palm Beach’s Northwood University in 2015 and transformed it into its flagship campus. It is now one of the largest employers in the county that requires employees to have vaccines.
The county tax collector’s offices and Delray Beach are two others. However, Delray Beach’s mandate only applies to the approximately 550 non-unionized employees.
Keiser has approximately 20,000 students enrolled on its 21 campuses.
